Blue Heron nest at the Pines public boat launch on Bon Secour Bay

The Great Blue Heron builds its nest out of dead tree limbs and may keep homestead in the same location for many years. This nest is has been repaired and kept by the same pair for several years now. It is located about a hundred yards or so west of the pines boat launch, mile marker eight on hwy 180. The Great Blue Heron will often visit the people fishing on the beach in hopes of a free meal. They will patiently stand by the fishing rods that are perched in the rod holders for however long it takes and will allow human interaction usually within about ten feet before walking away.
