Paddle Boarding in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach
The Gulf is a great place to paddle board but what to do when the weather doesnt lend favorable conditions. Up until the summer months the gulf can be too choppy to navigate a paddle board on.
When the summer months do arrive, conditions tend to be far more favorable.
However, there are great alternatives from the bays to lagoons and lakes that are literally a stones through away from the gulf.I will share with you in a three part series, several great locations starting from Fort Morgan and finishing in Perdido at Johnsons Island.
In the first series, one of my favorite sites is Navy Cove in Fort Morgan located east of mile marker three on Fort Morgan highway. If you enjoy nature or if you want to fish from the kayak, this is a dont miss location. A quaint and usually quiet cove with mostly calm waters is ideal to experience the natural scenic beauty and wildlife to be found here. A bird watchers paradise with many osprey nesting along the coastline, you are nearly assured to see the great birds diving for fish as they primarily subside on a pescatarian diet.

A little farther down near mile marker eight is the pines public boat launch on the Bon Secour which translates safe harbour. Often when the Gulf is a bit too much for boarding, this body of water can be smooth as glass with convenient parking. A great place for beginners being that the depth of water for several hundred yards out is rarely more than three feet depending on the tide.
